The Pre-mod Steering

I found this picture of the handlebars before going down under. The steering riser was very bulky looking and a little heavy, plus there was some wobble at the top of the fork due to having so much lever effect.

I Like It!

I rode my new recumbent yesterday briefly, just to try things out, then again today for half an hour or so. I stayed in front of my house most of the time, but I did make one run up the street as fast as I could go. It handled very well. I'm finally getting used to it. This might seem odd, but it was easier to adjust to this configuration than the other. I think now my hands are closer to the line between my eyes and the front wheel. Before, my hands were up in front of my face and reflexively, I expected the wheel to be behind them. Now, I just need to trim the seat back down a little. Click the pictures for a larger view.

My New Handlebars Are Coming Along

My new handlebars are coming along. They are fitted and jigged together, now I just need to clean up the tubes near the welds (so I don't choke on burnt paint), and weld them. Once they are assembled I can figure out where the push rod to the front fork will need to be.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the bar ends are canted up 20 degrees. Coupled with the 10 degree tilt of the fixed stem (which I still need to weld onto the frame) the hand grips will be tilted forward 30 degrees from vertical. The overall width is 28".
